CLAYTON – Late Tuesday afternoon, water began bubbling out of the ground near one of the counties new 24 inch water mains on Buffalo Road, just south of NC 42.
The major leak covered an area of the highway as mud, rocks and water flowed down the road, forcing the Northside Fire Department to eventually close the road to all traffic.
Johnston County Public Works Department workers were quickly on the scene and able to secure the leak by rerouting the water, which serves the Flowers Plantation area.
The road was reopened to drivers in time for rush hour traffic.
