Residents in Johnston and Harnett counties are being warned about a possible water sample scam.
Homeowners have reported finding water sample bottles and written instructions at their front doors. The flyer may claim their drinking water may not be clean or sanitary and will include a plastic vial to test the water and a bag to return the water sample.
The scam has been widespread in the Town of Angier. Town officials said Tuesday it was an attempt to sell consumers a “new water filtration system” that they do not need.
Public works officials say they test the water ever week to make sure it is safe to drink.
