Wayne Community College has recognized its top employees for 2019.
Michelle Dixon, the administrative assistant for the Public Services Department and the Humanities and Social Sciences Department, earned the Professional Support Staff of the Year Award. She was described as “an incredible asset to [her] departments and to the college as a whole.”
Larry Stroud, a mathematics and science instructor, is the recipient of the Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award. He is known for his love of learning and teaching. “This educator is fully engaged as a part of our team, regularly rising beyond the traditional role of an adjunct member of our faculty,” his nominator said.
Institutional Effectiveness Coordinator Becky Mulligan was named the Professional Employee of the Year. She was lauded for being “the epitome of a self-starter” and “not only enthusiastic about the job, but about the college as a whole.”
Maintenance Technician Steve Underwood was presented the Operational and Maintenance Staff Employee of the Year Award. His “infectious enthusiasm spreads throughout the department along with [his] initiative and ‘get ‘er done’ attitude,” WCC President Thomas A. Walker Jr. said in announcing Underwood’s award.
“It is because of employees like these that Wayne Community College is the best community college in the state,” Walker said. “People are what make this place special.”
Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by an outside committee based on initiative, enthusiasm, expertise, leadership, professionalism, productivity, creativity, involvement, dedication, and how they were rated on their last evaluation.
Each winner receives a trophy and a stipend provided by the Foundation of Wayne Community College.
The Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to broaden the base of community support for educational opportunities at Wayne Community College. In addition to furnishing recognition opportunities such as these awards to the college community, the Foundation provides scholarships for WCC students, funds for educational supplies and events that cannot be paid for with State money, and public cultural events.
