On Monday, the Wayne County Board of Education approved seven principal changes during its monthly meeting.
Norwayne Middle
Brian Weeks, the principal of Rosewood Middle, has been named the new principal of Norwayne Middle. He replaced Lisa Tart, who joined the WCPS Curriculum & Instruction Department as the new Middle & Secondary Curriculum Coordinator earlier this month. Mr. Weeks began his education career in 2003. Prior to being named principal at Rosewood Middle in 2016, Mr. Weeks served as principal of Goldsboro High. He also served as an assistant principal at Goldsboro High, Southern Wayne High and Northeast Elementary. Prior to his transition to school administration in 2009, he taught math and science at Brogden Middle. Mr. Weeks holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational administration.
Rosewood Middle
Eastern Wayne Middle principal, Catherine Lassiter, will be the new principal of Rosewood Middle. Ms. Lassiter has 24 years education experience and has served in her present position since 2005. Prior to this role, Ms. Lassiter served as the principal of the old Belfast Academy, principal of Mount Olive Middle and an assistant principal at Eastern Wayne Middle. She began her education career in 1994 as a middle school language arts and social studies teacher in Franklin County, North Carolina. Ms. Lassiter holds a bachelor’s degree in middle grades education, a master’s degree in instructional technology, and a master’s degree in school administration.
Eastern Wayne Middle
Spring Creek Middle assistant principal, Dexter Evans, will be the new principal of Eastern Wayne Middle. Mr. Evans began his education career in 1992 as a Physical Education Teacher at Northeast Elementary School. He also taught PE and Health at Southern Wayne High. Mr. Evans transitioned to school administration in 2001 as assistant principal of Grantham School. He was named principal of Southern Academy in 2004, where he spent four years. He has since served as an assistant principal at Charles B. Aycock High, Rosewood High, Southern Wayne High, and Spring Creek Middle. Mr. Evans holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education, a master’s degree in physical education exercise science, and a master’s degree in school administration.
Grantham Elementary
Spring Creek Elementary principal, Nicole Barrett, will be the new principal for Grantham Elementary. Mrs. Barrett has 22 years of education experience and served in her present role since 2015. Ms. Barrett began her career in education in 1996 as a third grade teacher at North Drive Elementary. In 2006, she became the curriculum facilitator at Goldsboro Intermediate School and transitioned to administration as the assistant principal at the school the following year. In 2008, she was named the assistant principal at Spring Creek Elementary. Ms. Barrett holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education and K-12 leadership.
Carver Elementary
Grantham Elementary principal, Antoinette Ward, will be the new principal for Carver Elementary. Mrs. Ward has 27 years of education experience and has served in her present role since 2015. Prior to this role, she spent seven years as an elementary curriculum specialist at Carver elementary. Mrs. Ward began her education career as a second-grade teacher in Winterville in 1991. Since then she served as a teacher at Brogden Primary and North Drive Elementary. She also served as an early intervention reading specialist and a Title I coordinator/home school coordinator at North Drive Elementary. Mrs. Ward holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in school administration.
Spring Creek Elementary
Carver Elementary principal, Lori Goodman, will be the new principal for Spring Creek Elementary. Mrs. Goodman has 22 years education experience and has served in her present role since 2011. Prior to this role, Mrs. Goodman served as assistant principal of Goldsboro High and Dillard Middle. She served as a curriculum facilitator at Grantham School and an elementary teacher at the school. Mrs. Goodman holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in school administration.
Spring Creek Middle
Spring Creek Middle interim principal, Cheryll Price was officially named principal of the school. Mrs. Price has served as interim principal since the start of last school year.
In addition to naming new principals, eleven schools will also see new assistant principals and elementary curriculum specialists: Charles B. Aycock High assistant principal, Harold Barnes, will be a new assistant principal at Eastern Wayne High. Rosewood High assistant principal, Justin Bruyer, will be a new assistant principal at Charles B. Ayock High. Eastern Wayne Middle assistant principal, Charles Crumpler, will be the new assistant principal at Rosewood High. Mount Olive Middle assistant principal, Terry Fenwick, will be the new elementary curriculum specialist at Eastern Wayne Elementary. Carver Heights Elementary teacher, Winter Goodson, will be the new elementary curriculum specialist at the school. Exceptional Children’s Program assistant director, Dawn Herring, will be the new assistant principal at Tommy’s Road Elementary. Eastern Wayne High assistant principal, Carol Hollar-Watson, will be the new assistant principal at Eastern Wayne Middle. Eastern Wayne Elementary assistant principal, Shonise Jacobs, will be the new assistant principal at Spring Creek Elementary. Tommy’s Road Elementary assistant principal, Lois Marshall, will be the new assistant principal at Eastern Wayne Elementary. Greenwood Middle physical education teacher, Jeffrey Winbush, will a new assistant principal at Goldsboro High. Spring Creek Elementary assistant principal, Alan Williams, will be the new assistant principal at Spring Creek Middle.
“These school administrators have the experience, leadership skills, and passion necessary to positively impact the schools and the communities in which they are located,” states Dr. Dunsmore. “My administrative cabinet looks forward to working with all of them in their new roles and providing them the necessary supports to help them have a smooth transition.”

Exceptional Children’s Program
Sonja Emerson, program manager for the WCPS Exceptional Children’s Program, will now be the Lead Administrator and primary contact for the district’s Exceptional Children’s Program.
Director of Secondary Education/Accreditation, Dr. Cynthia Reynolds, will be the new Director of Student and Family Support. Dr. Reynolds has been in her present role since 2010. Dr. Reynolds has worked in education since 1998, when she was hired as a business education teacher for McClintock Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1999, she moved to Johnston County to work at Corinth Holders School, where she worked as a business education/technology teacher. Dr. Reynolds came to Wayne County Public Schools in 2003 as a business education teacher at Goldsboro High. In 2004 she was named an assistant principal at Spring Creek High, where she worked for six years before joining the WCPS Administrative Offices. Dr. Reynolds holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, a master’s degree in educational leadership, and a doctorate’s degree in K-12 education leadership.
“Dr. Reynolds is a welcome addition to the district’s student services team,” states Dr. David Lewis, Assistant Superintendent for Accountability/Information Technology/Student Services. “Her expertise in curriculum and her passion for student success will be beneficial, especially to those students and families in need of personalized support.”
