Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro Will be Improved

Culvert installation to require road closure starting Monday

Contract crews need to close a section of Wayne Memorial Drive on Monday, June 11, for a project that includes installing a culvert.

The N.C. Department of Transportation earlier this year awarded a $2.6 million contract to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson to replace a drainage pipe with a more durable concrete, box-shaped culvert underneath the road.

The road will be closed between Hare Road and Stoney Creek Church Road. A detour will send motorists to Tommys and Hare Roads.

The road is scheduled to reopen by mid-August before schools are back in session.

Under the contract, crews will also resurface and widen the existing lanes of Wayne Memorial Drive between Woodside Drive and Saulston Road, a distance of 2.4 miles. That work will be completed by the fall.
