The Wendell Board of Commissioners has voted unanimously to hire Marvin E. “Marc” Collins III as their new town manager. Collins will begin work effective Friday, August 24th.
Collins obtained his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Appalachian State University and has had a career in public service, having most recently served as city manager for Williamsburg, Virginia.
He has over 17 years experience in local government operations and is an ICMA certified manager.
“We look forward to Mr. Collins’ leadership and ideas,” stated Mayor Virginia Gray. “Wendell is enjoying fast-paced growth and development and he has the experience and skills to lead the Town at this critical time.”
“We appreciate the dedicated service of long-time employee and Town Manager Teresa Piner and wish her well in her upcoming retirement,” Mayor Gray added.
Collins was selected from a pool of over 50 applicants who sought the position following an extensive search process that was initiated after Piner announced in January her plans to retire by the end of the year.
Collins said he is looking forward to getting settled in the new position so he can begin serving the citizens of Wendell and implementing the vision of the elected officials.
