SMITHFIELD – Smithfield Police cited four people for illegal gambling outside Walmart at 1299 N. Brightleaf Boulevard. It happened Saturday, June 24th around 6:15pm. Authorities believe the suspects were approaching customers entering and leaving Walmart and enticing them to play Three-card Monte. Police said the suspects allegedly admitted what they were doing.
During a search of the 2015 Nissan Altima the suspects reported arrived in, a firearm reported stolen to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office was located.
Kamel Davone Bethea-Henry, 27; Luther Rashawn Rodgers, 28; O’Bryant Bernard Palmer, 47; and Daiquan Tyrek Canty, 25, all of Thomasville, NC were cited for misdemeanor illegal gambling.
Bethea-Henry was also charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm and served with a April 2023 warrant for failure to appear in a Forsyth County courtroom on a misdemeanor charge of possessing/operating gambling equipment.

Probably read all the jocoreport articles about people being scammed and figured there’d be a few suckers at the walmart.
Also think I95 is a good reason too. Lot of visitors in the area, meaning more chances for clueless victims to swindle.

I understand what you are saying, and it is a shame that we did not let the casinos in our state but when it comes to three card monte, that game is a scam, and the only winners is the scammers.
