KENLY – A Johnston County woman was arrested overnight and held in the Johnston County Jail without bond. Around 11:00pm Thursday, deputies said they were called to a home outside the Kenly city limits.
Officers arrived and discovered a 73 year-old man bleeding from his mouth and hand. Authorities said Lola Marie Bradford threw a plate at her husband striking him and causing minor injuries.
The 60 year-old woman had also been verbally abusing to her husband, authorities reported. Deputies said she appeared to be slightly under the influence of alcohol when they arrived.
The victim had previously been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Bradford was taken into custody at the scene and brought before a magistrate where she was formally charged with felony abuse on a disabled/elderly person causing injury. The Johnston County Department of Social Services was notified of the incident. The 73 year-old victim was left in the care of a family member.
