CLAYTON – A man on the NC Sex Offender Registry has been returned to Johnston County after his recent arrest in Florida. Jose Antonio Acosta, formerly of Clayton, NC, was confined in the Johnston County Jail Thursday night following his extradition.
In May 2019, Johnston County deputies conducted a routine random check on Acosta and visited his listed address on Deerfield Trail near Clayton. An occupant at the address told officers Acosta had moved to Florida. Authorities said the 73 year-old man never notified authorities of his address change, a condition of his probation.
Acosta was recently located in Florida and arrested. He was charged with failing to report an address as a sex offender, a felony.
Acosta has been on the Sex Offender Registry since 2006 following an out-of-state conviction for committing a lewd or lascivious act with a child.
