Wilbert Daniel Evans, Sr., passed away on Thursday, February 7th at the age of 80.
Evans was the owner and operator of Evans Jewelers on Main Street in Clayton for many years. He was active in the Clayton community of Clayton where he and his wife had been members of First Baptist Church in Clayton for many years.
Evans enjoyed family time, classic and antique cars, local hometown Clayton businesses such as Jones Café and Bojangles. He loved his pet dog “Penny” who has been with him for 16 years. As 1 of 11 children, Wilbert grew up on the Evans farm off Little Creek Church road with his brothers and sisters. They had a small farm house and lots of love. He helped tend the farm from a young age. He was well loved in the Clayton Community.
Funeral service were held on Saturday, February 11th at 2pm in the McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel, 12830 US 70 Business Highway West, Clayton, NC, with Dr. Mark White officiating. Burial followed at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Wilbert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nelda Godwin Evans; three children, Freida Davis and husband, David, Daniel Evans and wife Vickie, Anita Voight and husband Bill; ten grandchildren, Josiah Davis, Jesse Davis, Emma Lawson, Jason Evans, Jacob Davis, Anna Tuft, Matthew Evans, Lauren Voight Perez, Kristen Voight, Justin Voight; eleven great grandchildren; siblings, David Evans, Emma Pittman (Billy), Eley Watkins, Robert Johnson (Elaine), and Dorothy Jean Popa(Daniel); as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; Jesse Evans, mother, Emma Evans Johnson, brother, Baucom Evans, sister, Elgie Evans, brother, Milton Evans, brother, Bill Evans, and brother, Howard Evans.
