Winds Hamper Firefighters Battling House Fire

Strong winds hampered firefighting efforts this morning at a house fire near Four Oaks. Shortly before 2:00am today (Tuesday), the Four Oaks, Blackman’s Crossroads and Strickland’s Crossroads Fire Departments responded to a working house fire at 1105 Keen Road, between I-95 and Highway 96.

Crews arrived to find flames shooting over the roof from the rear of the residence. Gusty winds made putting out the blaze difficult. It took firefighters an hour and 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. Smoke detectors in the home did activate and everyone made it out unharmed.

The Red Cross responded and is assisting two adults and two children that were displaced.

Johnston County Fire Marshal Adam Stanley said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
