Woman Accused Of Defrauding Hospital

CLAYTON – A Brunswick County woman is accused of defrauding a Johnston County hospital. Wendy Fowler King, 45, of Winnabow, NC was charged with obtaining property by false pretenses, a felony.
On June 19, a Johnston County deputy conducted a routine traffic stop and located King in the vehicle. She was wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court for driving while impaired and misdemeanor probation violation offenses.
During the traffic stop, King allegedly complained of a health issue and was transported to Johnston Health in Clayton for evaluation. While at the hospital, King was allegedly identified as a patient who had received medical care at the facility on April 30, 2023. During the visit King allegedly gave hospital staff a fictitious name.
King was treated and released at the emergency room and subsequently charged with defrauding the hospital out of $5,782.26, the cost of the April emergency room visit.
King was given a $35,000 secured bond on the combined offenses.
