A high school student was arrested Tuesday following an assault in the parking lot of a Four Oaks area church.
Around 12:15pm, Johnston County deputies received a 911 call reporting a domestic altercation in the roadway in front of Lee’s Chapel Advent Christian Church at 4154 Highway 96 South.
Deputies said a 46 year-old woman had picked up her stepdaughter from South Johnston High School to take her to Smithfield. While traveling on Highway 96, her teenage stepdaughter allegedly began arguing with her stepmother. She stopped the vehicle and the teen got out and walked to the church.
Officers said they located 16 year-old Selena Enriquez Ferrer of Eldridge Road, Newton Grove outside the church singing. When her stepmother approached, Ferrer allegedly began screaming at her, and in front of the officer, grabbed and shoved her down the steps of the church. Before the deputy could detain Ferrer she had allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat.
Ferrer was charged with assault and battery. Her stepmother was not injured.
