Woman Charged With DWI Following Fatal Smithfield Collision
SMITHFIELD, N.C. – A 27-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle on South Brightleaf Boulevard, according to Smithfield Police.
Around 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, officers were dispatched to the area of 2320 S. Brightleaf Blvd. for a welfare check on a person reportedly walking near the roadway.
When officers arrived, they found Tremaine White of Roseboro deceased at the scene.
Police determined White had been struck by a motor vehicle and the driver had left the scene.
While officers were investigating, 32-year-old Jasmine Ariel Taylor of Four Oaks returned to the scene. Police said Taylor, who was driven back by a family member, told officers she had struck something in the roadway earlier that night.
Officers then began a driving while impaired investigation. Taylor was arrested and taken to the Johnston County Detention Center, where police said a breath test showed an alcohol concentration of .13, above the legal limit of .08.
Taylor was placed in the Johnston County Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond pending an appearance in Smithfield District Court.
The fatal collision remains under investigation.
Smithfield Police have consulted with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office concerning additional charges that could be filed in the case.

Driving way past drunk, killing a pedestrian, and leaving the scene. $2500 bond is insane! Sure, she has to live with what he did, but what a huge slap in the face to Tremaine’s family. Johnston county courts have to do better for victims!
WHAT A OUTRAGE! Sure, she came back to the scene. But, SHE KILLED SOMEONE! Whoever gave that bond needs to be fired!

Super freaking sad when somebody that’s an addict and breaks a law or gets caught with residue gets a 50000 plus and this chick gets 2500 glad it ain’t family member or that would be one of her hospital bills
Typically bail agents require 10% payment…that means this murderer is walking the streets for $250. Years, we have a justice problem. Joco report should start naming the individuals who set bond.

“Officers then began a driving while impaired investigation.” It looks like she has only been charged with driving while impaired. I believe that is why the bond is so low. The article did say additional charges could be filed. Vehicular manslaughter would be nice. That should get her a higher bond.
I agree – Death by Motor Vehicle can be a misdemeanor or a felony. Until they can prove she was driving under the influence, they can’t charge her with a felony. Hence, the misdemeanor low bail amount.
Judging before you know the situation makes you look like an idiot you don’t know if the person that got killed jumped in front of the car which can happen to anybody so shut up and have common sense like your name which is obvious you don’t have common sense if you have to advertise your name as common sense dummy

No one observed her driving a car . If she gets a god attorney she will probably get her charges dismissed . That would be a crime in itself . One dead one dwi and the cops really cant prove a thing . When she claims it was not me driving . This is a freaking joke .
