A woman was killed when an oxygen tank she was using for medical issues exploded inside her home. The Nash County Sheriff Office, Nash County EMS, and several local fire departments responded to an address on Crowned Court, Zebulon, just outside of Middlesex in southern Nash County at 7:24am today (Tuesday).
According to the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, first responders discovered the body of 61 year-old Belinda Coble inside the home. According to a press release, Coble was smoking a cigarette when the cigarette ignited the oxygen tank causing a small explosion and fire, which claimed her life.
Her husband, who was asleep in another room, awoke to the sound of a smoke detector alarm. He was able to extinguish a small fire with a fire extinguisher. He dialed 911 and notified authorities upon discovering his wife was deceased.
