Woman Seriously Injured In Downtown Smithfield Pedestrian Crash

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – A 76-year-old woman was seriously injured Saturday morning after she was struck by a pickup truck while walking through a downtown Smithfield crosswalk.

The collision was reported around 11:20 a.m. at the intersection of Market Street and Second Street.

Smithfield Police said the woman was walking north through the crosswalk from South Second Street toward North Second Street when she was struck by a pickup driven by a 20-year-old man.

The woman was transported to WakeMed with serious injuries.

Smithfield Police, Smithfield Fire and Johnston County EMS responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Smithfield Police. Charges are pending.

Police said additional information will be released once the investigation is complete.
