FOUR OAKS – One person was injured, Tuesday night, in a serious crash on Interstate 95 near Four Oaks. A 20 year-old Dunn woman was headed south toward home from her Smithfield area job when she reported a driver ahead suddenly applied the brakes, causing her to swerve into the median.

Her car traveled through the center-divider cables and stopped in the northbound lanes as her disabled vehicle was now powerless. Seconds later, two northbound tractor trailers, driving nearly side-by-side, approached the wrecked car sitting in their travel lanes.

One of the semi’s struck the car in the passenger side, knocking the vehicle back into the median and trapping the injured driver in the wreckage. The tractor trailer came to rest up an embankment in a group of trees.

Four Oaks Fire extricated the driver from the wrecked car before she was rushed to Wake Med by Johnston County EMS. The extent of her injuries was unknown.

The driver of the Florida-based tractor trailer was not injured. He was hauling flowers from Florida to Pennsylvania. Another truck was dispatched to Johnston County to pick up the undamaged trailer to make the Thursday flower delivery.

The State Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

  1. Apply your brakes if the car ahead of you brakes. If you have to swerve, you might ask if you were travelling too close for your speed. Drive safer people, your life may depend upon it. I pray you recover quickly.
