SELMA – A driver hauling a disabled Ford F-250 as a favor for a friend, from Stella, NC back to the Burlington area, crashed while traveling through Johnston County around midnight Monday.
The roll-back tow vehicle traveled off the roadway for over 700 feet before overturning and throwing the large pickup off its bed, scattering debris over all four lanes of the US 70 bypass, just east of I-95. Both vehicles were destroyed.
The driver of the rollback suffered serious injuries and was transported to Wake Medical Center.
Owners of the Burlington wrecker service, “Dale’s Towing,” drove to Johnston County with additional vehicles and crews to recover the damaged trucks. The highway was cleared around 3:00am Tuesday.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
