Man Killed After Car Crashes, Catches Fire In Harnett County

HARNETT COUNTY — A 22-year-old active-duty Army soldier from Texas was killed early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in Harnett County.

The crash occurred just after 2 a.m. at the intersection of Overhills Road and Nursery Road.

A passenger car was traveling south on Nursery Road when it failed to stop at a stop sign at the T-intersection with Overhills Road. The vehicle crossed the intersection, struck several trees and caught fire.

Passing motorists stopped and helped remove the driver from the burning vehicle, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The victim was identified as an active-duty soldier stationed at Fort Bragg.

Speed was a contributing factor in the crash. The Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation into the fatal collision.
