1 Killed, 5 Injured In Sunday Night Crash

One person was killed and 5 others injured in a car crash Sunday night.  The wreck was reported around 10:30 p.m. on Durwood Stephenson Highway at Wilson’s Mills Road in West Smithfield.

Smithfield Police said Felix Antonio Juarez-Antunez was operating a Toyota passenger car with one passenger when he struck a Dodge Minivan occupied by four people. Three people in the minivan sustained critical injuries. A fourth person in the minivan died at the scene from their injuries.

Juarez-Antunez has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle and three counts of felony serious injury by a vehicle.  Police Captain R. Sheppard said alcohol is believed to be a factor and additional charges are anticipated.

Juarez-Antunez is being held in the Johnston County Jail under a $350,000 secured bond.

Captain Sheppard said more information would be released on Tuesday including the identity of the person who was killed, once their next of kin has been notified.

Police said the accident investigation is still continuing. The NC Highway Patrol is also assisting.
