1 Killed In Thanksgiving Night Accident

BENSON – One person was killed and another injured in a two vehicle accident Thanksgiving night in Johnston County. The collision was reported at 8:38pm Thursday on Highway 50 North at Stephenson Road.

According to the Highway Patrol, a Toyota Yaris was turning from Stephenson Road onto Highway 50 and was struck by a Chevrolet Corvette traveling north on Highway 50. The driver of the Toyota died at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to WakMed for treatment of injuries.

Troopers said the driver of the Yaris was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Corvette was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers are investigating whether high speed may have been a contributing factor.

The names of those involved has not been released.

  1. So sad that the young lady lost her life in this accident. I live at the intersection where this wreck happened and have heard the sound of many crashes but this was by far the loudest I have heard, as also was stated by my neighbors. A man on the scene stated that he was headed in the same direction as the Corvette and had been passed by him at a very high rate of speed prior to the crash. JoCo Report, please follow up on this report as to what has been determined. Prayers for the grieving family of the young lady who passed away.

  2. JoCo Report please follow up on this wreck to see how the driver of the Corvette is doing and if there are any charges pending in this case. I do understand that the Highway Patrol may not have completed their investigation.
