SMITHFIELD – Smithfield Police are investigating a shooting outside Walmart at 1299 North Brightleaf Boulevard. Around 5:00pm today (Friday), officers responded to a report of shots being fired in the parking lot.
Police arrived and located a person who had been shot in the parking lot near the Garden Center. The victim, whose name has not been released, was rushed by ambulance to a regional hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Johnston County EMS, and Smithfield Fire Department responded to the scene. Officers were having to work in heavy rain to collect evidence.
Police have not released any information about a possible suspect or a motive. The investigation is still ongoing.
