3 Year-Old Runs Into Traffic On Highway 70

SELMA – Police in Selma are investigating after a 3 year-old child wearing only a diaper ran into traffic on Highway 70 near Ricks Road. Luckily, a bystander saw the child dart into the travel lanes and grabbed the young girl before she was struck.

The incident happened at 8:00am on Wednesday, January 10. An employee at Wendy’s fast food restaurant saw the child run from the KFC parking lot into the middle of Highway 70. The employee ran into roadway and carried the child to safety.

Police said the 3 year-old girl did not appear to have any injuries.

While officers were canvassing nearby businesses and motels looking for the child’s parents, they received a 911 call reporting a missing child from a room at the nearby Econo Lodge. The visible upset father told police his wife left for work around 7:00am and thought the door was locked when she left. When he awoke around 8:05am his daughter was missing.

Selma Police contacted the Johnston County Department of Social Services about the incident. The case remains under investigation. At last report no charges had been filed.

  1. My 3 year old has no problem opening a locked door. The lack of supervision and parental choices here is absolutely mind boggling.

  2. I’m just thankful the child didn’t get hurt. A 3 years old is an escape artist on up till they start school…then again in the teenage years…LOL . SS definitely needs to investigate.

This is the real crime. We need to hold parents responsible. #StopSnowflakes

  4. The employee at Wendy’s should be marked as a HERO. I have seen 70 in that area and the three-year-old as well as the employee from Wendy’s could have been killed from the traffic. Great Job Wendy’s employee and to me the Dad at the hotel should be charged.
