SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Parks & Recreation can proceed with replacing the roof and windows on the Smithfield Community Park Press Box and Concession Stand.
The town council authorized a $35,500 bid to JLP Carpentry of Four Oaks. The project is just over the $30,000 amount set aside for the repairs in the 2022-2023 fiscal year budget, but considerably lower than a second bid of $75,400.
The current roof was installed when the building was constructed in 2001 and is in need of replacement. The roll-out style windows continually break and can no longer be repaired or opened.
Parks & Recreation Director Gary Johnson said JLP Carpentry has completed several projects for the town, including the Girl Scout Hut renovation, and he was pleased with their work.
The council approved taking $30,000 from the budgeted line item plus an additional $5,500 from General Fund Contingency to pay for the repairs.
