The Johnston County Board of Education recognized West Johnston High student Hayley Whoolery for winning the 3A State Championship in the 1600 meter run on May 17.
Whoolery ran the 1600 meter run in 5 minutes, 2 seconds.
She also finished second in the state in the two mile run the same day, helping the Lady Wildcats to an eighth place finish as a team.
