Four juveniles were arrested Wednesday night following a high speed chase on a stolen vehicle. Around 8:30pm, a Wake County ABC officer spotted a stolen vehicle on Highway 42 near Interstate 40 in Johnston County. The officer radioed for assistance to stop the vehicle. Johnston County deputies and state troopers immediately responded.
The stolen vehicle turned eastbound on I-40. A Johnston County deputy arrived and tried to stop the stolen BMW but the operator accelerated to speeds of 110 miles per hour while driving down the center of the two eastbound lanes. The stolen vehicle turned westbound on Highway 210 and at Highway 50 drove through the parking lot of the Sheetz with law enforcement officers in pursuit. A deputy attempted to block the fleeing car from exiting the parking lot but was struck in the front bumper by the BMW.
The suspects fled on Highway 210 westbound towards Angier. After entering Harnett County and the Angier city limits, Angier Police deployed stop sticks. The pursuit ended on Highway 210 at N. Hickory Street.
Authorities were surprised to learn the driver was only 15 years old. Three passengers, ages 14, 16 and 17, were also apprehended. All four suspects were charged with juvenile petitions and placed in a juvenile detention center. No injuries were reported during the chase.
