Five people were sent to two hospitals Wednesday afternoon following a head on collision in Smithfield.
The crash was reported around 4:20pm on Booker Dairy Road just east of Smithfield Selma High School.
A Jeep SUV and white pickup truck collided head on in a curve. Four teenagers in the Jeep, all students from Smithfield Selma High School, were injured along with the driver of the pickup.
Three of the 5 victims were taken to Wake Medical Center. Two were transported to Johnston Health in Smithfield. None of the injuries were life threatening.
On Thursday, Smithfield Police said the accident still remained under investigation and the names of those involved had not been released. Police said charges in the crash are pending.
The four students that were injured were members of the SSS Band and had just left band practice on campus when the crash occurred.
Booker Dairy Road was shut down near the crash scene for one hour before reopening. Photos by John Payne
