Campbell football’s all-time leader in tackles for loss is heading to the professional ranks.
Former All-American defensive end Brevin Allen was among 80 players selected across 10 rounds during Tuesday’s USFL College Draft.
The Memphis Showboats picked up the pass-rushing savant in Round 3, making good on an impressive display in front of pro scouts last month.
“It was a feeling of relief, because a team sees the talent that I have and took a chance on me,” Allen said in a message to The Daily Record on Wednesday.
The 6-4, 265-pound prospect took part in two postseason all-star games in January ā the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl and the Hula Bowl ā making a positive impression in both exhibitions.
Allen was an All-American and four-time All-Big South honoree at CU, earning second-team league honors this past season despite being limited to just eight games. He holds the school records for tackles for loss and sacks, and tallied 22 stops, 4 1/2 sacks and an interception as a redshirt senior.
The selection marks a second CU alum to make the league, joining former teammate Darion Slade, who signed a USFL deal with the New Orleans Breakers in September.
“My goals are still to continue my training this offseason, and aiming for the NFL,” Allen said. “But I have all the respect for the USFL for seeing my talent.”
The USFL season kicks off April 15, with the 2023 NFL Draft scheduled shortly after from April 27-29.
Misleading headline. It is the USFL. Come on man.
