WILSON’S MILLS – A woman lost control of her car and wrecked early-Wednesday in Johnston County. No one witnessed the 2:00AM accident on Highway 70 Business between Wilson’s Mills and Clayton. The victim crawled out the window of her overturned car, climbed up an embankment and began flagging down passing cars.
The woman was headed eastbound when she traveled off Highway 70, ran down an embankment, and slammed into a stand of trees before overturning. The driver was wearing her seat belt and the air bags on the car did deploy.
A passing motorist reported to 911 a woman was standing beside the highway trying to flag them down. They did not see the crashed car. A deputy sheriff was the first on the scene and notified first responders of the crash.
The driver was treated and released from a local hospital for minor injuries. Troopers cited her with failure to maintain lane control.
The NC Highway Patrol, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Johnston County EMS, and Wilson’s Mills Fire Department responded.
