SMITHFIELD – Patrol Officer Alexander Watts has been named the 2021 Smithfield Police Officer of the Year. Watts was selected by other officers and his supervisors.
Officer Watts has been with the police department since 2019. When he was hired, Watts said he had wanted to be a police officer since he was 8 year-old. He was raised in Smithfield and graduated from Johnston County Schools. He said his goal is to build a strong relationship between the community and the police department.
Prior to joining the police force, Watts worked as a jailer at the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
Police Chief Keith Powell said Watts always has a positive attitude. “Officer Watts is always willing to go above and beyond in the performance of his duties. He is an asset to the Department and the Town.”
