Angier-Black River Fire Department Breaks Ground On Station 2

ANGIER, N.C. – The Angier-Black River Fire Department broke ground Saturday on a new fire station that will expand the department from one station to two as it serves a growing area in Harnett County.

The new station will be constructed on Mangum Road in Angier.

Plans call for a 7,000-square-foot, five-bay fire station with sleeping quarters, restrooms and showers, a kitchen and dining area, offices, a dayroom and storage space.

Angier-Black River Fire Department currently protects more than 15,000 residents across approximately 36.5 square miles from a single station. The department operates with a combination of paid and volunteer firefighters.

The project is being financed with a $6 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development’s Community Facilities Program.

USDA Rural Development officials joined members of the fire department Saturday for the groundbreaking ceremony.

Robert Hosford, USDA Rural Development Director of State Operations, said the funding will provide firefighters with a modern facility while strengthening public safety in the area.

“This $6 million investment in the Angier – Black River Fire Department puts rural North Carolina first by giving our firefighters the modern facilities they need to protect families, farms, businesses and livelihoods,” Hosford said.

The new facility will become Station 2 for the Angier-Black River Fire Department, giving the department a second location from which to serve residents within its fire district.
