Archer Lodge Adopts Updated Land Use Plan
ARCHER LODGE, N.C. – With its population expected to nearly double over the next 25 years, the Town of Archer Lodge has adopted an updated Comprehensive Land Use Plan to help guide future growth and development.
The Archer Lodge Town Council approved the plan during its Aug. 3 meeting. It replaces the town’s original Comprehensive Land Use Plan adopted in 2015.
Archer Lodge had an estimated population of 5,371 in 2024. The N.C. Office of State Budget and Management projects the town will grow to approximately 10,000 residents by 2050.
The updated plan addresses residential and commercial growth, infrastructure needs, preservation of rural land and the overall character of the community.
Four primary goals are identified in the plan: preserving Archer Lodge’s rural character, considering the creation of a new village center, considering an expansion of the town’s planning jurisdiction, and facilitating infrastructure improvements.
The plan also includes short-, medium- and long-term action items intended to help town leaders work toward those goals.
“We are pleased to adopt this much-needed update to the Town’s Land Use Plan that will guide planning and development for our growing Town in the coming years,” Mayor Matt Mulhollem said.
The plan’s adopted vision calls for Archer Lodge to preserve its farming heritage and small-town character while allowing single-family residential and balanced commercial growth.
Planning Board Chairman John Oglesby said the two-year planning process included input from town staff, elected officials, planning board members, residents, property owners and other stakeholders.
“The Town of Archer Lodge’s plan is a shared promise to protect the past, guide growth, and ensure our small town remains a place the next generation is proud to call home,” Oglesby said.
He added that the goal is to manage growth so new development serves the community rather than changing its character.
CodeWright Planners provided consulting and planning assistance during development of the document.
The adopted Comprehensive Land Use Plan is available on the Town of Archer Lodge website.
