Arrest Made During I-40 Traffic Stop

BENSON – A routine traffic stop on Interstate 40 resulted in the arrest of a Cumberland County man on felony charges.

Around 11:44pm Saturday, Dec. 9, a Johnston County sheriff’s deputy was on patrol on I-40 near Benson. The officer said he got behind a car swerving across the travel lanes, and at one point nearly struck another vehicle.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and during a search of the car reportedly found a concealed handgun, 103 grams of suspected marijuana, and 18 grams of suspected MDMA. MDMA is commonly known as ecstasy.

Alfonso Jose Hurtado, age 52, of Fayetteville, was charged with three felony and one misdemeanor drug violations, and misdemeanor carrying a concealed gun. The narcotics and firearm were seized.

Hurtado was held under a $25,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.

  1. Why would the stupid judge give this animal only a $25,000 bond. He had an illegal gun, drugs, What did the judge think this guy would do with the gun? Wait for it to become an antique! I do want to thank the JCSO for his good work and thank God he was in the right place at the right time.
