WENDELL – The State Highway Patrol has released the name of a driver killed in a two vehicle traffic accident in northern Johnston County. The collision was reported at 7:22pm Sunday on Lake Wendell Road, off Buffalo Road.
Yair Jaimes Estrada, age 28, of Lake Wendell Road, Wendell was operating a Ford Mustang not far from his home when he drove left of center and collided with a Toyota Sienna, operated by Yeccenia Hernandez of Clayton.
Troopers said Estrada was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. Hernandez and her daughter, a passenger in the Toyota, were transported to WakeMed for treatment of minor injuries.
Estrada’s mother reportedly drove up on the accident scene prior to authorities arriving.
The Highway Patrol said speed was a contributing factor. No charges were filed.
