A judge has increased bond for a domestic violence suspect to $1 million.
Smithfield Police had to taser the 49 year-old man while he was trying to break into his estranged girlfriend’s home Saturday afternoon.
Police said Jerry Dolan Sowers of Highway 242 South went to the woman’s North Smithfield home then left. She called police who responded. As police were leaving, Sowers allegedly returned.
An officer followed Sowers vehicle into the driveway as he jumped from the car and ran towards the front door of the victims home.
Sowers car rolled into the police cruiser. The officer confronted Sowers who had armed himself with a knife and was trying to forcibly enter the woman’s home. Police tasered Sowers and he was handcuffed.
He was charged with violation of a domestic violence protection order with a deadly weapon, intimidating a witness, breaking and entering to terrorize or injure, resisting arrest, and injury to property. Sowers was initially held under a $380,000 bond, which was later increased to $1 million.
The victim was not harmed.
