BBB Offers College Move-In Tips
RALEIGH – College move-in is fast approaching and already here for many new students. Better Business Bureau of Eastern Carolinas (BBB) has tips to help prepare for a smooth start to university life.
“With move-in around the corner, it’s important for consumers to make the best decisions for themselves and be prepared for this next step,” said Mallory Wojciechowski, BBB president and CEO. “Detailed organization and budgeting are two of the things that will help make this next life chapter for everyone involved a seamless transition.”
BBB offers the following tips for College Move-In Day:
- Create a check list. What do you know you need? Creating a checklist allows you to keep track of what you have and what you will need to pack.
- Form a budget. Figure out how much you can spend on supplies and decorations. Moving and college preparation can become costly. According to the National Retail Federation, $1,325.85 has been spent per student to prepare for college this year. Consult with your roommate on purchasing shared items to avoid extra costs.
- Join social media groups. Social media can be used to not only connect with fellow students, but to prepare for upcoming classes. Students sell used textbooks and dorm items through online groups. Compare prices on the campus bookstore website to those within social media reselling groups or e-commerce sites. When interacting online, be sure to follow BBB’s online safety and social media tips.
- Renting a vehicle. Moving far or with a lot of items? You may want to look into renting a moving vehicle. BBB can help you figure out and find what may work for you.
- Find local resources. Locate the nearest pharmacies, grocery stores and health care professionals. Students will spend more time at college than at home, finding essential services in town will be important. BBB’s business ratings can help narrow down options.
