The Bentonville Volunteer Fire Department has received approval to borrow funds to purchase a new fire engine.
The department has been planning and saving for the purchase of a 2017 Freightliner E-One 1500/1000 Pumper Tanker for several years.
The fire truck will cost $327,000 but the department will only need to borrow $100,000 of that amount.
First Citizens Bank was the low bidder on the loan at an interest rate of 2.45 percent for 10 years. KS Bank and Four Oaks Bank also submitted bids.
Fire Chief John Beasley told County Commissioners the new engine will replace a 1998 model truck. File photo by John Payne
