Approximately 5 acres of brush burned Wednesday afternoon after a fire got away from a man burning debris. Several fire departments responded to the blaze in the 500 block of Fire Department Road in the Wilson’s Mills city limits.
Gusty winds helped spread the fire which engulfed a vacant house on the property. The home may be a total loss.
The Wilson’s Mills Fire Department was assisted by the Selma and Clayton Fire Departments. The NC Forestry Service brought a plow to the scene to help contain the wind driven flames.
