Who would attempt to break into a Johnston County church over the Christmas holiday? That’s what sheriff’s deputies want to know.
A break-in was discovered Sunday morning at the Wesley Chapel AME Church, located at 867 Cleveland Road near Smithfield. A janitor was at the church prior to morning services when they discovered damage to a rear door. They contacted a church trustee who alerted deputies.
Authorities said the suspect was not successful in gaining entry into the church but did cause damage to the door while trying to break-in.
The break-in occurred sometime between December 21st-27th.
