Clayton Mayor Declares State Of Emergency In Response To COVID-19

Town of Clayton Mayor Jody McLeod declared a State of Emergency in response to COVID-19. Currently there are two presumptive positive cases in Johnston County and 14 cases in nearby Wake County.

“This emergency declaration is really just an administrative action, but I signed it today because I want Clayton to be proactive and to make sure we have the flexibility to respond to this pandemic, which is changing almost every hour,” said Mayor McLeod. “I do NOT want this to increase fears or ignite panic in our community.”

The State of Emergency declaration will enable the Town of Clayton to utilize liability coverage and swiftly activate any emergency plans or mutual aid agreements and waive internal purchasing policies, so the Town can react to any future issues quickly. Having this declaration already in place also helps us coordinate with our partners.

The declaration does not enact any changes or supersede current recommendations already in place from the NC Governor or the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Please continue to check ncdhhs.gov/coronavirus for health updates and check ClaytonNC.org/virus for local cancellations and changes.

The Johnston County Health Department and Emergency Services have set up a COVID-19 hotline and the public is encouraged to call if they have any health questions – 919-989-5400.
