Clayton Resident Joins Campbell Law As Assistant Professor

RALEIGH — Dean J. Rich Leonard has announced Kelly Cline, a former associate at Chapman and Cutler LLP in New York, will join Campbell Law School effective Aug. 11, 2023, as assistant professor.

Cline will bring her background in corporate law to the classroom, where she will teach Business Organizations, Business Planning and Corporate Finance.

In her most recent role at Chapman and Cutler, Cline was a member of the commercial lending and mergers and acquisitions teams. As the sole attorney in a family of nurses and engineers, her practice focused on financing companies in the life sciences industry. Cline has also served as in-house counsel.

Prior to joining Chapman and Cutler LLP, Cline served as in-house counsel at JPMorgan Chase & Co. in New York. Originally from Bath, North Carolina, Cline said she is excited to return to her home state to contribute to the legal community.

Cline graduated valedictorian from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2015. She earned her law degree in 2018 from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where she was a Chancellors’ Scholar and graduated with high honors. During her time at UNC Law, Cline served as the managing editor of the North Carolina Banking Institute Journal.

Cline’s recent publications include “After All This Time: An Analysis of the Recent Trend to Extend Truth in Lending Style Disclosures to Commercial Financing Transactions,” which is forthcoming in the 2023 issue of the Campbell Law Review, and “The North Carolina State Tax Treatment of Virtual Currency: An Unanswered Question,” which was published in the 2017 edition of the North Carolina Banking Institute Journal.

Beyond her teaching and legal endeavors, Cline said she enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones. She lives in Clayton with her husband, PJ, and their dogs, Dublin and Patsy Cline.
