CLAYTON – Cleveland Road near Interstate 40 in western Johnston County was shutdown around 2:00PM Wednesday following an accident involving power lines.
A dump truck with the bed raised struck an overhead power line, in an adjacent work area, causing the line to fall across the highway. A pickup truck traveling on Cleveland Road struck the dangling line. The impact caused a power pole to break.
No injuries were reported but there was a power outage reported in the area. Duke Energy responded to make repairs.
Significant traffic delays occurred and a traffic detour was set up until Cleveland Road could be reopened a few hours later.
The Highway Patrol investigated.
