Copper Stolen From Cell Phone Tower Site

SMITHFIELD – Thieves stole several hundred feet of copper wiring from a Smithfield-area cell phone tower site. The theft is believed to have happened June 23 but wasn’t reported to authorities until a week later.

AT&T representatives reported cables and ground wires, valued at $7,500, were stolen from the site, in the 2500 block of US Highway 70 Business East.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. At last report no arrests had been made.
