Johnston County Commissioners have set the date for a public hearing to gather comment from citizens on the proposed renaming of a public road.
The NC Department of Transportation is doing safety improvements on US 70 near Princeton. Once completed, the work will separate Pondfield Road. A different name is needed for the new segment so that new 911 addresses can be assigned for emergencies.
The Princeton Fire Department has already alerted county officials about their concerns regarding two road segments with the same name.
The Homeowners Association of Lakeview Estates has proposed the name of Shoreline Drive for the segment of Pondfield Road south of US 70. The road north of US 70 would remain Pondfield Road.
According to Johnston County ordinances, a public hearing is required before any road name change can occur.
A Public Hearing has been scheduled for Monday, August 7th at 6:00pm in the Commissioners Room at the Johnston County Courthouse in Smithfield.
