A couple in their 70’s operating a roadside produce stand on Highway 70 said someone defrauded them Wednesday.
Around 9:00am, the couple was at their produce stand outside of Princeton when a man stopped in an older white passenger car and asked to buy a watermelon. The man paid for the watermelon with a counterfeit $100 bill and received change.
As the suspect was getting into his vehicle to leave, the victim realized the money was fake and approached the car and asked for another form of payment. The suspect snatched the fake $100 from the victim’s hands and sped away on Highway 70 towards Smithfield.
Johnston County deputies don’t have a lot of information to go on. The suspect was described as a tall black male wearing a white t-shirt, white hat and shorts. The couple was not injured.
