Crews Contain Trackside Fires

JOHNSTON COUNTY — Several small fires were reported Friday morning along railroad tracks in Johnston County, prompting responses from multiple fire departments.
The fires were reported around 7 a.m. along a stretch of track running through Selma, Smithfield and Four Oaks, officials said.

Fire crews from Selma, Smithfield and Four Oaks responded and worked with CSX personnel to quickly contain the fires. Authorities said the fires were extinguished without incident.
Officials believe a train that had recently passed through the area may have sparked the fires. No injuries were reported.
