SMITHFIELD – A Johnston County deputy sheriff was injured Monday morning in a two vehicle accident. The accident was reported around 8:00am on Swift Creek Road at US 70 Business.

A white Ram van reportedly pulled from the parking lot of a convenience store at the intersection into the front right corner of an unmarked Chevrolet Tahoe driven by the officer.

The deputy was transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No one in the white van was injured.

The Highway Patrol investigated the accident. Wilson’s Mills Fire and Johnston County EMS responded to the scene.
