Mayor Don Rains, a local businessman and community leader, made it official Monday and asked the citizens of Princeton for another term as their Mayor. Mayor Rains filed for re-election at the Johnston County Board of Elections.
When filing for office Mayor Rains said, “As Mayor, I have seen our community grow and prosper while keeping true to our small town values. We have seen renewed economic investment in Princeton’s business district, we have competed and won several grants to upgrade our town’s infrastructure, and we have expanded our town’s workforce and services. We have laid the groundwork of better things to come.”
Rains said his next term as Mayor will focus on Princeton’s positive future. “We continue to grow Princeton’s potential as an Interstate highway moves to area. The next few years are critical in deciding Princeton’s place in our region and that is why we need leaders who are dedicated to ensuring we are growing in the right direction,” said Mayor Rains.
“I’m running for Mayor because we need strong leadership to bring people together and prepare our community for the future. As your Mayor, I will focus my energy and efforts on improving our daily lives, protecting our families, and enhancing our quality of life,” said Mayor Rains.
Mayor Rains said he will have four missions for his next term as Mayor:
- Prosperity: increase job creation and economic growth by the revitalizing of downtown
- Safety: protecting our citizens and our community
- Quality of Life: focusing on high-quality town services and investment in a new community building
- Transportation: ensuring that Princeton has a place at the table at the U.S.-70 and I-42 expansion planning decisions
Mayor Rains is married to Vicky Temple-Rains of Princeton and has two adult children. In addition to serving as mayor, Mr. Rains serves as Vice-Chair of the Triangle J Council of Government, Vice-Chair of the NC Council of Government Forum, Vice-Chair of Community Workforce Development, BSA Tuscarora Council Executive Committee, and President of the Princeton Lions Club.
Mayor Rains is a graduate of Princeton High School (Class of 1972) and East Carolina University. He is currently the managing partner of True Value Community Hardware in downtown Princeton. He is a member of Princeton United Methodist Church.
