Johnston Health in Clayton will be conducting an emergency-preparedness drill Wednesday afternoon.
Specifically, the staff will be responding to an overhead announcement, alerting the hospital to an active shooter.
“As you know, these types of shootings are happening in communities large and small, and with more frequency, across the country,” said Suzette Rodriguez, Public Relations Specialist at Johnston Health in an email. “The purpose of this drill is to help us practice what we’ve learned, and to look for ways to improve our response.”
“We will be taking care of patients as usual that afternoon, and will let them know about the drill. We will not be firing blanks, or using real or fake guns. Representatives of local law enforcement agencies will be on campus to observe and offer advice.”
The drill is set to begin at 2:00pm Wednesday.
