HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — A driver who led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through two counties early Friday morning is in custody following a coordinated effort involving deputies and state troopers.

The incident began around 2:30 a.m. when a Harnett County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a Ram 2500 pickup truck traveling on N.C. Highway 210. The driver did not stop, and deputies initiated a pursuit that continued into Cumberland County.

The chase reportedly reached speeds in excess of 100 mph as the vehicle traveled through Cumberland County before reentering Harnett County.

State troopers attempted to end the pursuit by deploying stop sticks on N.C. 210 and U.S. Highway 401, but the driver avoided them by driving through a Food Lion parking lot, continuing the escape.
